1993, cm.21x29, pp.218, ill.bn.nt. brossura. Scopo della presente ricerca è la narrazione, nelle sue linee generali, delle vicende storico-postali della Toscana dal secolo XVII al secolo XIX. Questo lavoro non rappresenta una indagine esauriente, ma intende solo indicare una traccia per eventuali ricercatori interessati a questi argomenti. La storia postale è un campo di studio vasto e affascinante, nel quale si intrecciano la storia dell'economia, della tecnica, dei mezzi di trasporto, del costume, della politica e della diplomazia, ecc. E' un modo di fare storia totale, di scoprire nuovi documenti, di presentare notizie e dati ancora sconosciuti, come testimonia questa modesta ricerca, per una migliore comprensione delle vicende storiche. Sebbene la storia delle comunicazioni sia strettamente legata a quella dei mezzi di trasporto, ho ritenuto opportuno tenere distinti i due argomenti, presentando, nella prima parte, "la posta dei cavalli" con il duplice scopo di introdurre nel "mondo postale" gli eventuali lettori che non lo conoscono e invogliarli a leggere, nella seconda parte, l'evoluzione della "posta delle lettere". Le ricerche sono siate svolte presso l'Archivio di Stato, la Biblioteca Nazionale, la Biblioteca Marucelliana e il Gabinetto Scientifico e Letterario "Viesseux". I documenti iconografici provengono dalle sopraddette Istituzioni e da collezione privata.
